October 13, 2002 - Long-time member & racer Donnie Unger was seriously injured at VIR during the last CCS weekend on October 5-6. Click for more information.

October 8, 2002 - Racer Robert Taylor e-mailed to say thank you to everyone at Summit Point for their help after his crash, and to say he's healing well. We at MARRC wish him a speedy recovery.

September 11, 2002 - UPDATED: Racer Mark Whitehurst reports that former MARRC member and racer Michael Orapello was killed in Fairfax on August 31. This now includes information on the memorial service on September 14 in Vienna, VA. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

August 20, 2002 - Racer Jay Boswell (WERA #464) sends his thanks to the MARRC Safety Crew and BSR staff after his near crash in Turn 4 during the WERA National. He is looking for any witnesses or photos from the incident as well.

August 12, 2002 - The Mid-Atlantic Roadracing Club mourns the passing of Randy Renfrow. Member #150, Randy was a local favorite at Summit Point for many years. While recuperating at home from injuries sustained at Daytona, he fell down the stairs last week and suffered head trauma from which he could not recover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Baptist Church Missionary Fund at the Stafford Baptist Church, 2002 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford, VA 22554.

July 26, 2002 - Correction: CCS will make the October 5-6 event at VIR a double points round to compensate for the loss of the race at the not-yet-ready Shenandoah Circuit (not the July event as we previously reported.)

July 26, 2002 - CCS has cancelled the October 12-13 race at the Shenandoah Circuit at Summit Point Raceway. Summit Point has officially informed CCS that the track, which is still under construction, will not be completed in time.

July 10, 2002 - Racer Will Torbert and CCS have bought and delivered approximately 40 haybales for Turn 3 at Summit Point Raceway. They will be placed 20 feet in front of the tire stacks to slow down a crashing racer or bike before it hits the tire wall. They will be available for use during the CCS weekend on July 13 and 14, for the WERA National two weeks later, and all subsequent motorcycle races. Thanks to Will Torbert and CCS for this contribution to safety at Summit Point Raceway.

June 15, 2002 - An injured rider prayer hour will be held at the Apple Chapel on July 13, with the MARRC Chaplains.

June 5, 2002 - Work has been completed in Turn 4 to increase the run-off room at the bottom of the Chute. More than 40 feet of run-off room has been added. Thanks go to Greg Harrison and his excavation company, and to the Move the Mountain Fund whick enabled the work. Go to Move the Mountain Fund website for the latest photos of the work and to donate to the cause.

May 27, 2002 - Lap records were dropping all over the place during the Formula USA weekend at Summit Point. Larry Pegram obliterated the old record of 1:15.488 with an incredible 1:14.617! Set during qualifying for the Unlimited Superbike event on a GSXR-750, four other riders, including former record holder Lee Acree, beat the old mark. And hats off to Michael Barnes, who set two new records; a 600 record of 1:15.886 and Buell 1200 lap record of 1:18.681.

April 21, 2002 - A fund has been put together to gather resources to cut back the embankment in Turn 4 at Summit Point Raceway. The Move the Mountain Fund is accepting donations now and Summit Point Raceway will match the funds to improve run-off room around the track.

April 01, 2002 - Pre-Season preparation at Summit Point brought safety crew and race school volunteers to the track for the MARRC work day on March 30. Thanks go out to all the people who have already helped start to make 2002 a great racing season.

March 22, 2002 - MARRC is sad to report that long-time member Dottie Bacon passed away on March 21, 2002. She is the mother of Roger Bacon and wife of Len Bacon, and a former cornerworker of the year. In memory of Dottie, we've posted an interview with Len and Dot Bacon from the 1996 MARRC newsletter after they were awarded the MARRC Cup.

February 25, 2002 - Thanks to Dean Beasom and Rich Sturges, we can share photos from the MARRC Awards Banquet held on January 12.

January 19, 2002 - The Annual MARRC Awards Banquet honored racers and volunteers from 2001. For those of you that couldn't attend, read about the winners and announcements made during the evening.

January 17, 2002 - MARRC announces its officers and board members for 2002.

December 30, 2001 - The Summit Point expansion plans have been approved and the results explained in an area newspaper article.
