December 30, 2001 - The Summit Point expansion plans have been approved and the results explained in an area newspaper article.

October 16, 2001 - Roadracers rise to the challenge: The Rally in the Valley raised $1,268 for the Red Cross from parade lap fees and outright donations, and merchandise sales. The Red Cross was very appreciative and the event exceeded all expectations. Thanks to all who donated, and especially to member Tom Fitzpatrick for spearheading the effort.
October 15, 2001 - Scott Gowland (CCS Expert #148, WERA #886) of Lutherville, MD, racer and active MARRC member, died in a single-bike accident at Summit Point Raceway on Saturday October 13 during the Heavyweight Sportsman event. Scott was well-known and well-respected, and will be deeply missed by the MARRC family. Please click here for information on the viewing and services to be held in the Baltimore area.
October 4, 2001 - MARRC donated $360 to buy 10 trees for the Summit Point sound barrier project. Summit Point has already begun planting the planned 500 Leyland Cypress trees that will help reduce the noise heard in the local area. MARRC has high hopes that this project will make Summit Point a better neighbor and keep roadracing in the Mid-Atlantic region.
October 3, 2001 - IMF Update: MARRC has donated $300 to member Ed Morgan after his crash in Turn 4 on September 8. He was even supporting MARRC by riding during the MARRC Roadracing School mock race when another rider went down in front of him, and Ed selflessly crashed to avoid the rider. September 11, 2001 - Rick and Melinda Beggs of Fast Lane Cycles donated a Nissan pickup truck to augment the MARRC pickup truck. The welcome donation couldn't have come at a better time -- the battery in the old pickup died, and the new pickup was used to get bikes and riders back to the pits during the CCS weekend. Thanks to Rick and Melinda for their dedication to racing!
August 31, 2001 - Summit Point Raceway announces its plan to plant trees as a noise buffer zone, and is seeking donations to help cover the costs. Click here to see the announcement from Summit Point.
August 31, 2001 - Danny Thompson (#903 Amateur) writes to MARRC, "I wanted to take just a moment to write a quick thank you for the check from the injured riders fund. The money will help pay my insurance deductibles. The thoughtfulness and concern is truly appreciated. Thank you for being there when we (racers) need you and even when we don't!". August 6, 2001 - It's becoming tradition to break the Summit Point lap record during the WERA National. Kudos go out to Tray Batey for dropping the record to a 1:15:681 during the 6-Hour Endurance, but the award goes to Lee Acree for dropping it down to an amazing 1:15.488 on Sunday during the 750 Supersport race.

July 27, 2001 - We've been remiss in providing news about racing at Summit Point, so member Stephen Moore has helped us out with a report on the Jefferson 500 held in May.
July 13, 2001 - Member Will Astle reports on the community raceway expansion meeting held at Summit Point on July 12.
July 10, 2001 - Rich Leonard (CCS #598) writes "I wanted to publicly thank the cornerworkers who came out to help me after I highsided and crashed at Summit Point this weekend. I have a few twists, bumps, bruises, and lots of sore muscles but I am OK. Thanks also to the EMTs who didn't cut my leathers off but did a great job of picking me up off the track transporting me to the hospital." Get well soon, Rich!
April 23, 2001 - Track record broken by Glenn Szarek during Sunday's final race. Glenn earned a 1:15.81 on his Suzuki GSXR-750. Glenn set the Summit Point motorcycle track record once before in 1995.
